Kids Karate Gi (uniform) Jacket Tying Procedure
Before getting into tying the kids karate belt you will need to make sure that your karate jacket is put on properly by folding the right side jacket across to the left side of your body and secure with the jacket ties on your left side and then fold the left side jacket across to the right side of your body and secure with the jacket ties on your right side by tying the two strings on the right side of your body. These ties are tied in the same manner as the way you would tie your shoe laces.

Kids Karate Belt Tying Procedure
To start the karate kids belt tying procedure you will need to take your karate belt and fold it in half to determine the center and then open the belt and place the center of the belt at the front of your waist where your belly button is and then wrap both sides of the belt around your body and continue bringing the ends to the front of your body. Once your karate belt is at the front hold one end of the kids karate belt in your left hand and one in your right hand. Take the end that is in your right hand and place it over the end that is in your left hand and then pass it through the center point between the karate jacket and the belt, meaning under both pieces of belt. Now take the end that passed through between the jacket and the belt and hold it in your left hand, while holding the opposite end in your right hand. Now take the left end which is in your left hand and place it over the right end which is in your right hand and pass it through the hole created in the center and then pull both ends tight.
Congratulations on successfully and properly tying your kids karate belt and when done correctly the knot in the belt which is at the center of your body will create the capital letter C with the opening in the capital letter C facing your left side which is the side that has your Goju Ryu Crest and the same side that your heart is on.
After the knot in your kids karate belt is neatly tied it is considered a matter of great pride for the ends of the belt to be of equal lengths when pulled out in front of you. A little tip when tying your kids karate belt is to make sure that during the entire tying procedure is that your make sure that no parts of the belt get twisted.
Young kids in karate will have a hard time tying the belt as first but with Sensei's help and a little practice they will learn quickly and be able to tie the kids karate belt on their own. When your child is new in karate just have them bring their kids karate belt in hand with them to the dojo and Sensei or Sempai will help them to tie it and teach them how to do it.
KIDS KARATE BELT ORDER FOR 4 TO 13 YEAR OLDS
After the free karate trial, kids training in karate will start with a white belt and then they will be invited to a grading which can take anywhere from 3 to 9 months and if successful they will progress to a yellow kids karate belt and then the next kids karate belt is a yellow belt with a black stripe.
Once they are a yellow and black stripe in kids karate the next belt would be an orange kids karate belt and then an orange kids karate belt with a black stripe followed by a red kids karate belt and then a red kids karate belt with a black stripe.
A green kids karate belt would be the next belt in the order at Phoenix Karate in Mississauga which is the color of kids martial arts belt when we start training with weapons followed by a green belt with a black stripe and then a purple kids karate belt followed by a purple kids karate belt with a black stripe. Next in the kids martial arts karate belt line up is the blue belt followed by a kids karate blue belt with a black stripe and then a brown kids karate belt followed by a brown kids karate belt with a black stripe.
Once a child in martial arts karate reaches a brown karate belt with a black stripe they will begin to review all of their knowledge in greater detail for several months and when ready they will be invited to a kids martial arts karate grading to attempt to achieve a Sho Dan Ho which is the Japanese words for a kids Junior Karate Black Belt which visually is a kids karate black belt with a white stripe down the middle.
KARATE BELT ORDER FOR KARATE TEENS 14 YEARS OLD AND KARATE ADULTS
After the free trial, teens and adults training in karate will start with a white karate belt and then after a lot of training and practice they will be invited to a karate grading which takes anywhere from 3 to 9 months and if successful they will progress to a yellow adult and teen karate belt followed by an orange adult and teen karate belt and then a green adult and teen karate belt. At the teen and adult green belt level the karate students start to learn various types of traditional karate weapons starting with the Bo Staff which is an 8 foot staff. Following a promotion to an adult and teen karate green belt would take a karate practitioner to a martial arts karate blue belt which Sensei Tony Tasillo says was his most difficult KYU martial arts karate belt level to achieve because in addition to the required hand katas there is three different weapon katas and the introduction to the Tongfa and Sai weapons.
Once an adult and teen in martial arts karate reaches a martial arts karate brown belt level they will learn all the required knowledge for the brown belt level as well as learning Tai Chi as well as a review of all of their knowledge from adult and teen karate white belt up to and including brown belt requirements in great detail for several months and when Sensei Tony Tasillo feels the student is ready, they will be invited to a martial arts karate black belt grading in order to attempt to achieve a martial arts karate Sho Dan belt which is the Japanese term for 1st Degree Martial Arts Karate Black Belt.
After reaching an adult and teen martial arts karate 1st degree black belt there is much more to learn and it is said in martial arts karate that all the training leading up to achieving a 1st degree martial arts karate black belt is about perfecting the moves and the technique but after achieving the rank of first degree black belt you are actually a white belt all over again as now you learn to apply everything you learned and in katas, the hidden movements are called Bunkai.
Following the achievement of a adult and teen martial arts karate first degree black belt there are many other levels of black belts which are numbered from one to ten and the next one in order would be a 2nd degree karate black belt which in Japanese is known as a Ni Dan followed by a 3rd degree martial arts karate black belt which is knows in Japanese as a San Dan followed by a 4th degree karate martial arts black belt and then a 5th degree martial arts karate black belt known as Go Dan in Japanese. The karate martial arts belts go all the way up to 10th degree which should be reserved for a founder of a style of karate and is traditionally presented a sensei by his or her students and it is for this purpose that you should never find a 20 year old or even 50 year old martial arts karate practitioner with a 10th degree black belt as it takes many years to progress to each level of martial arts karate belts.
You may notice that some karate schools have different colors of karate belts when compared to your karate school and they may also have the belts progress in a different order and the reason for this is that they are tailored to the martial arts type and the individual school or organizations. The reasoning behind karate belts is that they are a way to determine the level of skill and knowledge a student in karate has and it works the same way as a grading system in school works for example grade 1 or grade 2 or grade 3 as these just offer an insight to the knowledge and skill one should have. As per Mr. Miyagi in the original karate kid movie, other than to determine someone's skill, a belt is just to hold up your pants, which we support 100 percent.
