Karate Belt Tying Procedure
- Fold the right side jacket over and secure the jacket ties.
- Fold the left side jacket on top of the right side jack and secure the jacket ties.
- Fold the Karate belt in half to determine the center.
- Place the center point at the front of your waist.
- Continue bringing the ends to the front while holding one end of the karate belt in your left hand and one in your right hand.
- Take the end that is in your right hand and place it over the end that is in your left hand.
- Pass it through the center point between the karate jacket and the belt
- Take the end that passed through between the jacket and belt and hold it in your left hand, while holding the opposite end in your right hand. Take the left end and place it over the right end.
- Pass it through the hole created.
- Pull tight and you are done. You have now properly tied the karate belt.
After the knot is neatly tied, it is considered a matter of great pride for the ends of the belt to be of equal lengths when pulled out in front of you.
Young kids in karate will have a hard time tying the belt at first, but with Sensei's help and practice they will learn very quickly. When they first start just have them bring their karate belt with them to the dojo and Sensei will help them and teach them.
